Recent events have brought the nuclear weapons issues into focus. In this situation it was found suitable to make a study of the Swedish policies in this field. This study contains three main sections, the first of which deals with Swedish nuclear policy from a historical viewpoint. In section two we try to identify the current policy as it appears from the reports issued up to now by the 1978 Defence Committee. Section three contains a critical scrutiny of the opinions of the Committee, and an attempt to extend the analysis regarding both threat perception and possible counterplanning. This last section is still in progress. Since there is at present a debate on nuclear-free zones, this issue has also been taken into consideration.
