Summary In concrete slabs supported on columns the load-carrying capacity and the deformations at failure of the slab around the column are the decisive factors in determining the structural action and the design of the slab as a whole. Laboratory tests have been carried out. A theory is given for determination of the load and the deformations at punching failure. Account is taken of the effect of the limitation of the ultimate deformations of design of the slab as a whole.
