Social vulnerability assessments have emerged as a suitable tool to better understand the effects of natural hazards. In contrast, there is a mismatch observable between the growing number of studies on social vulnerability and related assessments and the understanding of their empirical validity. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Social Vulnerability Index (SVIS) developed by Haas et al. (2022) using a local sensitivity analysis approach.
