This paper is a part of continuing resarch begun seven yaers ago as a comperative study of manpower policies and issues in the ground forces of seven northern and central European NATO countries. This report attempt to provide information on French manpower policies, time-phased availability of augmentation or reserve forces and ground force structures. The study is based on national publications and documents as well as on direct assistance from defence authorities and experts in the French Ministry of Defence.
