In Japan public laboratories deal with basic research and applied research. Many private laboratories, almost all belonging to private companies, make efforts in applied research and development. Almost all testing laboratories are operated by government ministries and focus on the testing of fire equipment and building materials. About 15 public and private universities have some faculty members whose tests recently have become more active. We are afraid that we may be missing the opportunity to share information about a few institutes/laboratories in Asian countries because of the limited distribution of their information.
