A fire protective coating based on a soluble silicate was investigated in terms of intumescence, water sensitivity, and water absorption versus relative humidity. An acidic curing agent was sed to improve the coating performance. The mechanism of intumescence of the silicate-based material was studied using DSC och TGA techniques.
