The computer program, LAVENT, provides a computational tool to investigate the response of fusible links to a ceiling jet in an environment where there is sufficient ventilation to maintain the compartment pressure below the smoke layer at approximately ambient conditions. Venting of the fire produced smoke layer as a function of ceiling vent area and fusible link response time may also be studied. Work is presently underway to incorporate sprinkler interaction with the upper layer. With this enhancement, fire scenarios may be simulated numerically, which will include the actuation of more than one sprinkler link.
