Two Detroit, Michigan, fires are among a group of incidents in the early months of 1993 which raised the nation’s awareness of the problem of unsupervised children. These incidents, which occurred less than a month apart, resulted in the deaths of 11 children under the age of 10. The causes of these fires and the factors which led to the tragic loss of these young lives provide vivid lessons about the dangers of leaving children home alone.
