At approximately 0328, Thursday, March 30, 1989, a fully loaded 8,800 gallon gasoline tanker overturned on an exit ramp from I-495, the Washington, D.C. beltway. Approximately 150-180 gallons of gasoline leaked from the tanker's dome covers. The driver suffered minor injuries. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded, stabilized the scene, contained the product, and supervised the off-loading operation. One major route to the beltway was partially closed for 12 hours; the beltway remained open throughout the incident. There were no additional injuries.
