In Sweden, as in other countries, the development of more informed assessments of the various major risks that society as a whole is facing, as well as of its capacity to prevent, manage and recover from serious incidents and events, has long been viewed as desirable. The idea is that national risk and capability assessments, may facilitate coordination, prioritisation and the building of consensus in a country’s system of emergency preparedness. The Government of Sweden has commissioned the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) to continue the work of producing a national risk assessment that began in 2011. MSB has also initiated work to develop a more coherent and reliable process for producing national risk and capability assessments.
