On December 6,1994, the Broward County, Florida Fire and Rescue Division and a host of other local, state, and federal agencies participated in an aircraft disaster drill in the intracoastal waterway near the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. The purpose of the drill was to test the interagency response plan for a downed aircraft in the water. The plan was devised to integrate the response capabilities of multiple agencies under a unified command system.
