This volume provides an updated, comprehensive account of the existing practical and theoretical knowledge of the orgin, development, prevention and mitigation of dust explosions in the process industries. The first chapter provides a detailed and self-contained overview of the intire field. Starting with an elementary explanation of what a dust explosion is and how it orginates and develops, it subsequently describes the wide range of means of preventing and mitigating dust explosions in practice. The next chapter is devoted to reports of actual dust explosion accidents in different countries. The following chapters discuss the generation of dust clouds from dust deposits, experimental and theoretical research on the central topic of flame propagation in dust clouds, as well as aspects of ignition and venting. The final chapter provides a comprehensive overview of testing ignitability and explosibility of dust clouds and layers. Data for a wide range dusts is available in English for the first time.
